7 Ways to Add Style to Your Space

Posted by Cassie Venable on

With all the pretty design inspiration out there, do you ever feel on overload?  With a thousand potential projects running through your brain, it’s hard to nail down a few to actually tackle.  Today I’m going to simplify your life and narrow it down for you. Here’s 7 simple ways to style your home that will make a big impact.

Update those house numbers

This simple DIY change creates instant curb appeal and brings the exterior of your home up to speed.  I love the look of these modern numbers with wood backing from Michelle over at So simple and clean, and easy to read.

Add some corbels

Corbels are a great way to add character to openings in your home. They can take a simple wall opening from builder-grade to custom.  You can find remakes in home stores or online, but if you’re wanting to find some corbels with aged charm, take a stroll through your local antique store or plan a trip to Roundtop, Texas for the Roundtop Antiques Show. It will not disappoint!

Upgrade your cabinet hardware

It’s crazy how something so small in a space can have such a huge impact! Cabinet hardware is like the jewelry of your home and instantly changes the look and feel of a space, just like a great pair of earrings takes your outfit from running errands and carpool, to date-night in a snap. I am in love with these brass pulls Caitlin Creer and Emily Jackson used in Emily’s kitchen. The entire kitchen is a total dream that makes me channel my inner Julia Child.

Add exposed beams

So maybe your home didn’t come with original beams towering above your space. You’re in good company.  Who says you can’t throw them up there yourself? An exposed beam over a wall opening or door frame, or layed out along the ceiling of your family room creates such a cozy and well-crafted feel that makes you want to invest in timeless wool blankets and hand thrown coffee mugs. This beam from @ourfauxfarmhouse does a great job separating her dining and living space.

Add a Vintage door

A well-placed vintage door adds so much character to your space.  It shows off your personal touch and style, without needing to add a ton of other design elements, that sometimes can become over cluttered.  How cute is this laundry door from Liz Marie Blog? I love how she put a chalkboard where the glass was to add some more farmhouse charm.

Go for custom lighting

You can’t go wrong changing outdated lighting for lighting pieces you love. I love how Beacon Lighting used 3 different colors to accent this space! What a bold and great idea!

Add a reclaimed wood wall

Using reclaimed barnwood adds instant texture, and warmth to a room. It creates the perfect backdrop for everything else you use to fill your home. If you want to see just how beautiful reclaimed wood would look in your own space, get yourself a sample pack! HERE We’ll send you three samples of both our raw reclaimed and whitewash wood planks so you can design and play with different elements to your heart’s content.

I hope this style punch-list gives you some tracks to run on for your own space! Just remember in whatever you do, make sure it’s something you love and fits who you are, not just a copy of the latest trends.  Adding personality to your space is one of the joys of making your house a home for you and those you love.

Can’t wait to see what you do with the place!
