FAQ for Wood Planks

***Please note during this time products can take up to 3 weeks to ship.

Read this before using Peel-and-Stick Installation

Plank and Mill reclaimed wood is backed with an industrial grade adhesive. With such a wide variety of wall finishes available, some paint brands and texture styles are not suited for this type of adhesive. Several factors can affect adhesion: humidity, surface texture, and the chemical makeup of your wall paint. *New wall paint needs 30 days to cure before installation.

Prior to installing your plank wall, we recommend installing a small test piece.

Step 1

In a discreet area of your space, apply a 2’ board. (Be sure to wipe down your wall first and apply with proper pressure. See installation instructions included in your shipment)

Step 2

Wait 48 hours. This is extremely important to ensure that your paint or texture will not reject the adhesive.

Step 3

Once the adhesive is securely in place after 48 hours, you’ve got the green light to continue on with the rest of your installation! Happy Day!

If your plank did not adhere securely, don’t worry! That beautiful barnwood wall is still going to happen! Please contact help@plankandmill.com  or call us at 888-502-8212, and our install team will walk you through the steps to ensure your boards are installed properly.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ORDER A SAMPLE?

Yes, we offer a sample pack of each style under our products page. You can purchase the sample pack here. These will give you an idea of the variance that can occur from piece to piece since each plank is an authentic reclaimed piece of wood.

*Please note if you would like to test the adhesive it is industrial strength. It is designed to be a permanent application and removing it could damage your wall.

HOW MANY SQUARE FEET DO I NEED FOR MY PROJECT?

You can find the square footage for your project by multiplying the length times the width (in inches) of your project then dividing that number by 144. You may also plug your measurements in our calculator here. We recommend adding 5% of your project’s square footage as a waste factor due to any scraps that occur when cutting.

DO THE LENGTHS OF THE PLANKS VARY IN SIZE OR DO I HAVE TO CUT THEM MYSELF?

The peel and stick wood panels come in precut lengths of 1 foot, 2 foot, 3 feet, and 4 feet long to aid in easy and quick installation. We recommend laying them in a staggered pattern to give the project a genuine feel. You can also cut desired lengths with a hand or miter saw and use any scraps since any edges can align to one another.

CAN I HANG THINGS ON IT?

Yes, you can treat the wood planks the same as you would a regular wall when hanging objects but any fittings such as nails or screws need to be long enough to go through the wood planks and into the wall stud behind the drywall. P+M™ planks are not designed to be weight bearing.

WHAT IS THE LEAD TIME FOR ORDERS?

Our products are made to order and ship within 1 - 3 weeks.

CAN THE PLANKS BE REMOVED ONCE APPLIED TO A SURFACE?

The tape adhesive used on the planks is a permanent solution and not intended to be removable but can be pried off. The adhesive will need to be removed and the surface will require repairs.

HOW DO I CLEAN IT?

You can use a regular vacuum attachment to clean off any dust or debris.

DO I NEED TO PAINT THE WALL BEFORE APPLYING?

No, we cover the knots and holes to allow the rustic look with little wall prep. If you do decide to paint we recommend letting the paint fully cure for at least 30 days before applying the planks.

CAN IT BE USED AS A BACK SPLASH? CAN IT BE SEALED?

Yes absolutely. We don’t recommend it be used if standing water is present. If you are concerned with exposure to water, many customers have applied a polyurethane coat to seal the wood. It's important to be sure that your wall does not currently exceed 9% moisture content before installing. If possible, let your walls dry out for a couple days before installing and after installing. It's important that you allow the material to acclimate outside of the box and wrapped for 72 hours.

CAN IT APPLIED ON OR NEAR A FIRE PLACE?

In most cases fire places areas should be okay for Plank and Mill™ planks as long as it is not exposed to combustible materials or surfaces getting above 90 degrees. However, each fire place is different so we recommend consulting your unit’s installation guide/safety manual.

CAN IT USED AS OUTDOORS?

It is intended for interior decoration only.
