If you’ve been on Instagram or Pinterest in the last year, you know laundry rooms are becoming more and more important in the home. Of course they house your washer and dryer, but they’re expanding to include storage, office nooks and seating. With the number of hours we spend doing laundry each week, it makes sense to create a space you enjoy being in.
How It BeganWhen Chris and Stacey decided their laundry room needed an upgrade, they reached out to Plank and Mill to set up their complimentary consultation. Our designer, Calleigh, was happy to help them create a functional and welcoming laundry room.
The bright yellow walls and brick print linoleum weren’t the vision Chris and Stacey had in mind. The functional laundry sink was great, but the unfinished look left a lot to be desired. With an active family, they also wanted to add a bench and cubby for additional storage and make the most of the space.
They started with the cubby, building in a bench seat and storage. Then they painted the walls a light dove grey and redid the floor with a plank inspired look.
After adding the rustic plank-style floor and new paint, they were ready to add the finishing touches. Calleigh even helped them select a countertop that would tie the space together while keeping a bright, fresh feel.
The Transformation
After a consultation call and a few emails, they were able to select the right planks to warm up the room, countertops to brighten the space and select the fixtures that give the entire laundry room a polished finish. The 3” reclaimed planks are easy to handle and cut for a variety of spaces, making them ideal for working around windows and cabinets. We especially love how the countertops and white trim enhance the richness of the reclaimed wood walls.
By painting the cabinets and adding new hardware, they updated the look without blowing their budget. Upgrades like this have huge impact in a small space. We love the rustic shelf and sweet touches that create a warm welcoming space that fits their family perfectly!
The final result? Beautifully installed Plank and Mill reclaimed wood plank walls that upgrade the entire space. The new laundry room is perfect for welcoming a busy family home and keeping everything in order for mad dashes out the door. The nook has plenty of space for storing shoes, equipment and more while the hooks keep jackets and backpacks in order.
